About the Film

Engagingly made…moving.” (Mark Adams, Screen International)“Moving family drama…emotionally complex and wholly relatable.” (Andrew Parker, Dork Shelf)

The film received much acclaim at the 2012 Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, and won a Special Mention Award at the 2012 Haifa International Film Festival.

“Igor and the Cranes’ Journey is a lovely fable that will appeal to cinema lovers of all ages. In the aftermath of his parents’ divorce, 11-year-old Igor relishes visits with his father, an ornithologist in the Russian countryside. When his mother announces they are moving to Israel to start a new life, Igor’s world is turned upside-down. Struggling to adjust to his new Israeli school, he finds solace in tracking the migration of a flock of cranes from Eastern Europe to Africa. In this feature debut, young Israeli-Russian filmmaker Evgeny Ruman proves himself dexterous at mixing light humour with a truly heartwarming story.”

“Igor & the Cranes’ Journey is the first feature film from director Evgeny Ruman, and it’s an emotional experience. Igor’s story depicts almost every challenge a child could deal with. His parents are  divorced and he tries to understand why he can’t stay with his father; he moves to a new city, leaving his friends behind; and he encounters first love.”
